Jacob Forrest death, Portland’s Lloyd District shooting victim identified
A man is dead after a shooting in the Lloyd District on Sunday morning, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Officers were called to the scene at Northeast Sixth Avenue and Northeast Holladay Street just after 6 a.m., where they found 45-year-old Jacob Forrest.
No suspects were located, according to police. The shooting is currently under investigation.
TriMet service on NE Holladay Street is affected due to the investigation, and NE Holladay Street was closed between Grand Avenue and NE 7th Avenue.
Joe Klees has lived nearby since 2021 and said he woke up to gunshots – a sound he’s grown used to over the last three years.
“A little bit after I woke up I heard shots, maybe four or five shots in quick succession,” Klees said. “It is a violent kind of area. I’ve never really felt unsafe, it’s usually late night or early morning when things like this happen but it’s concerning for sure.”
Klees said he would consider moving but for his affordable rent.
“Basically, I just have a good deal on my apartment so I choose to stay,” Klees said. “Most of the time it does feel pretty safe.”
