Suspect Fatally Shot After Stabbing SWAT Officers in Columbus

A tense standoff in west Columbus on Thursday night resulted in multiple SWAT officers being stabbed and the suspect fatally shot. The incident began around 4:25 p.m. in the 800 block of Cherry Creek Parkway following a domestic violence call to the Columbus Division of Police.

The situation escalated into a prolonged barricade situation. According to Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert, multiple officers were stabbed during the standoff, prompting at least one SWAT officer to discharge their weapon, fatally shooting the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:45 p.m.

The injured officers were taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment, and their injuries are not life-threatening, according to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9 President Brian Steel. Initial reports erroneously stated that two officers had been shot, later corrected to three officers being stabbed.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure transparency and accountability.
