Eulalia Cazares Barragan, 48, of Corona, died in a pedestrian accident Saturday night on the Riverside (91) Freeway and police arrested the driver.
The deadly collision occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 27th in the westbound lanes of State Route 91 near Promenade Avenue and McKinley Street in Corona, the Press Enterprise reports.
The woman was one of five pedestrians standing outside of their vehicles on the shoulder of the freeway after a two-vehicle crash between a BMW 528i and a Hyundai sedan.
While they were calling for assistance, an oncoming Nissan Altima heading westbound on the 91 Freeway drifted to the right shoulder and hit the back of the stopped BMW. The BMW was pushed into the group of pedestrians on the dirt embankment.
Corona Fire Department paramedics responded and confirmed the death of Eulalia Cazares Barragan due to massive head trauma on scene. The other four pedestrians suffered major injuries and the suspect had moderate injuries. They were all taken to a hospital in the area.
Marzia L. Barboza, 35, of Long Beach, who was driving the Nissan, was arrested following the crash on DUI and other charges.
The traffic accident remains under investigation.
