A hit-and-run driver killed a Valley Station man who was operating his “hoveround” electric scooter.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Matt Sanders, officers were called to the 10400 block of Deering Road at 11:17 p.m. on an injury accident.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been hit by a car. Police said he had been operating an electric “hoveround” style scooter. He was hit by a vehicle that left the scene before police arrived.
He died at UofL Health Hospital in downtown Louisville shortly after arriving.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 61-year-old Dennis Mannell Jr., who lived in the area.
An investigation revealed that the Mannell was crossing the road in a dark area when his electric scooter was hit. Police did not have any description of the vehicle that hit Mannell.
LMPD’s Traffic Unit asked that anyone with information to contact the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). The crime tip portal can also be used.
