Carolina Figueroa Atlanta GA Obituary, Woman pass away after accident at I-20 in Cobb
A tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning on Interstate 20 East in Cobb County, resulting in the death of a woman. The incident caused a complete halt on the highway. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the collision involved a passenger car and a freight truck around 3:30 a.m., just before the Riverside Parkway entrance (exit 46).
Stephanie Figueroa-Mora, 29, from Villa Rica, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 eastbound at the same time as a Freightliner Cascadia with a 53-foot trailer. The Pontiac began to spin counterclockwise, hitting the median wall with its front end.
The reasons for the initial loss of control remain unclear. After the initial impact with the wall, the Pontiac hit it again and was redirected across the eastbound lanes. At that moment, the front of the Freightliner struck the rear of the Pontiac, causing it to roll over and come to a stop on the passenger shoulder. The tractor-trailer jackknifed on the shoulder due to the impact.
Tragically, the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Carolina Stephanie Figueroa-Mora died at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner and a passenger in the truck were unharmed. The accident led to the closure of all eastbound lanes of Interstate 20, which remained closed until nearly 7 a.m., causing significant delays for commuters.
Authorities are currently investigating the crash and have not yet determined if any charges will be filed. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Cobb police department at 770-499-3987.
Carolina Figueroa’s obituary will be released by her family.
