New Trier Loses Legendary Coach Bruce Woodbury

A New Trier alumnus, Woodbury made an indelible mark as both head and assistant coach for the school’s boys and girls swimming teams. His coaching career spanned several decades, marked by extraordinary success and a profound impact on countless young athletes.
As head coach of the girls’ swimming team for 18 years, Woodbury led his teams to an impressive 11 state championships and a total of 18 state trophies. His coaching prowess earned him multiple Sectional Coach of the Year honors and the prestigious State Coach of the Year award.
Beyond the win column, Woodbury was known for developing well-rounded athletes and fostering a love for swimming. His countless All-State and NICA All-American athletes are a testament to his coaching excellence and dedication.
